The Tardis lands in New York where the Doctor will battle aliens alongside a masked vigilante in the “Doctor Who Christmas Special: The Return of Doctor Mysterio,” airing Christmas Day.
Santa isn’t the only one who can travel vast distances quickly with a questionable vehicle.
This holiday season, everyone’s favorite Time Lord will be invading New York for a brand-new sci-fi adventure in this year’s “Doctor Who” Christmas special titled “The Return of Doctor Mysterio,” airing Christmas Day on BBC America and BBC One, and on Australia’s ABC the following day.
In this new trailer, posted Friday, the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) comes in contact with a self-proclaimed superhero called the Ghost (Justin Chatwin), while helping an investigative journalist (Charity Wakefield) who seems to have a romantic tie to the Ghost.
If that isn’t exciting enough, the Doctor also has to track down brain-swapping aliens determined to take over New York.
A favorite character among Whovians, Nardole (played by comedian Matt Lucas), also returns for the special as well. Nardole was first introduced in last year’s Christmas special, “The Husbands of River Song.”
Interesting side note: All the American characters in the special are actually played by British and Canadian actors.
The 60-minute “Doctor Who” Christmas special is written by Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Ed Bazalgette. Here’s hoping the special does so well that Capaldi decides to stay on as the Doctor.
