As we predicted earlier today, Microsoft has just launched new cumulative updates for Windows 10 aimed at both the 10240 version released in July and the 1511 build known as November Update.

What’s important to note is that this update pushes the Windows 10 version to 10586.318 in the case of the November Update and to 10240.16854 in the case of the initial version released in July 2015.

What’s new for 10586 systems

First of all, let’s see what’s new in the case of KB3156421. According to Microsoft, this patch includes quality improvements and security fixes, so it enhances reliability of several features, including Cortana, Bluetooth, USB connections, Internet Explorer 11 Microsoft Edge.

There are plenty of other fixes, including one that addresses a memory leak that occurs when opening a portable document format form multiple times. There are also fixes for bugs that affected Bluetooth connections when a PC resumes from sleep, but also for an issue that sometimes corrupted CompactFlash cards inserted into a card reader.

In terms of security fixes, Microsoft says this update patches kernel mode drivers, and several other Windows components and apps, such as IE11, Microsoft Edge browser, Windows Shell, and Windows Journal.

What’s new for 10240 systems

Aimed at systems that haven’t yet been updated to version 1511, KB3156421 is an update that brings plenty of fixes, including for the aforementioned memory leak experienced when working with PDF documents, but also for some unique issues causing text alignment errors for light to left languages in Internet Explorer 11.

There are plenty of other updates too, such as better security for kernel mode drivers, improved security in the Windows kernel, and fixes for security issues in Edge browser, Windows Journal, Windows Shell, and others.

Both these updates are shipped via Windows Update and bring your computer fully up-to-date. Cumulative updates include all the previously released fixes, so if you install the latest, your system is fully updated.
